On The Trail of Warner’s Viral Dark Knight Campaign
Warner Brothers’ viral campaign for The Dark Knight is going so well that we’ve decided to cover it from start to end. Like any good viral campaign, we’ve only seen the beginning and more pieces are developing, falling in place, and further whetting our appetites for the movie.
Soon after the world got its first glimpse of the Joker, on the site I believe in Harvey Dent Too the image was taken off and replaced with red lettering that read ‘Page not found.’
Now to the uninitiated observer this may seem as if the page was actually removed, but since we have established that Warner is using guerrilla marketing tactics to get the word out on their movie, every related move they make now is going to be scrutinized several times over. And in this case, when you do a ’select-all’ for the text on the page, you are confronted with the Joker’s maniacal laughter all over the page, and the hidden message partly reveals itself.
Branding & Viral Marketing Done Right: Will it Blend?
The thing I really like about this campaign is that it is so cohesive. The YouTube videos send you to a site that has a lot of interesting content, allows you to suggest blending ideas and even has some “try this at home” suggestions for safe, useful blending. My personal favorite is the debt reduction program.
This Will it Blend? site then passes you on to the Blendtech site through a variety of avenues. The blog is hosted on Blendtech and the Will It Blend? store has both internally linked products and products that link to Blendtech’s main store. There are also a few direct links for the curious or for those that really need to blend their cellphone soon. But, despite all that, I never felt forced toward the Blendtech site.
The fact that Blendtech managed to create an autonomous feeling entity with Will it Blend?, and yet, still managed to make the funnel to their site and product pretty slippery (I ended up there), is impressive.

e-dicks are the future and the future is now. The erected meat dick used to be the only way information was given and received. They were great, you could take them with you and put them on shelves and they do still exist and will continue to for the foreseeable future but the time of the e-dick has arrived.
